COMPANY HISTORY

Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny. photo James Burke

Our founder, Tony Dalton, Barrowmount, Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny, was a man of true entrepreneurial spirit and a self-made business success story. He was managing director of Decor Moulds, Goresbridge, which is engaged in GRP products and custom moulding. A native of Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny, Tony Dalton joined Ballyellen Lime Works in 1951, working in a clerical capacity before going on the road as a sales rep for the company, which at that time was owned by Thomas Thompson & Sons (the Carlow Town structural steel firm). Tony remained with Ballyellen Lime up to 1971, when he realised a long-held personal ambition to ‘go it alone’ in business.

In 1971 Tony established Daltaplast in Goresbridge and started manufacturing translucent roofing. He also became engaged in making pre-cast concrete products before making his move into decorative plastic moulding. In 1994 he changed the name of his enterprise to Decor Moulds.

In 1979 Tony hit the national headlines when he produced a chess set with all the pieces made of fibre glass. Some of the chess pieces stood up to four feet high. GRP products from Daltaplast and Decor Moulds are to be found all over the world - a lasting legacy to Tony Dalton.

Today Tony's sons, Padraig and Shane, continue to develop the Decor Moulds business and to introduce new applications for the company's plaster and GRP products.
